Water ProjectsWater Theatre Company began forming in 1996, with the intention of finding material that is new to the stage, discovering what is electric and human in every story we tell and stretching our own and our audience's notion of what theater is about. In 2001, we adapted three stories from award-winning author Elizabeth Gilbert's collection Pilgrims, which played to sold out houses and received winning reviews. In January 2002 we mounted an evening of original material written by two company members entitled, Baleville and Other Unknowns. Our latest project, in April 2003, featured an adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's The Death of Ivan Ilych, entitled 'Death of a Judge' - a multimedia stage play adapted by Shira Piven. Water Theatre Company has the firm conviction that challenging, moving and raucous theater has a place in the great cultural life of New York City.
Check out what we've been up to, and please contact us if you're interested in receiving information on our next project or helping us make theater continue to live by becoming a contributor.
