Pilgrims

Adapted by Shira Piven, based on stories from the collection Pilgrims by Elizabeth Gilbert.

Pilgrims was adapted for the stage from three stories out of Elizabeth Gilbert's book, Pilgrims. Pilgrims played to virtually sold out houses at the Greenwich Street Theater in March and April of 2000, with continued runs at the Tribeca Playhouse in January and April 2001.

In Tall Folks a bar owner and her nephew consummate their love after spending an evening at a strip club which has opened up next door. In The Many Things Denny Brown Did Not Know (age 15) an adolescent boy stumbles into a love affair with the neighborhood bully's sister. And in a touch of what Ms. Gilbert calls 'American magic realism', a former beauty named Rose drives her kindergarten school bus route and winds up with a bus-load of adoring men – all her ex-lovers – in Finest Wife.

All three stories were developed for performance in the company's unique, highly physical style by Ms. Piven and the ensemble of actors.
