Performed at the Tribeca Playhouse in March of 1999, Waiting for Lefty tells the rousing story of a New York Taxi Cab Union in the economic turmoil of the Great Depression. In Water's adaptation, excerpts from Clifford Odets' testimony before the House Un-American Activities Committee are interwoven into the fabric of the play, juxtaposing Odets' own naïve idealism of the American labor movement with his "naming of names" during the Communist witch hunt 15 years later.
